Pir Muhammad Bavary was born in 1330 of the solar calendar (c. 1951) in the village of Khalishak, Arghandab district, Kandahar province. He completed his primary education at the Shah Ashraf primary school in Arghandab.
In 1342 (c. 1963) he entered the military school, and in 1352 (c. 1973) graduated from the military university, beginning his career in Kabul, where, alongside his official duties, he also served as a teacher of the Pashto language.
He wrote professional articles published in the Zerma and Ordu journals, and over the decades his books on a remarkable range of subjects, from humour and history to language and society, have been published and reached devoted readers across the world.
But his pen tells only half the story. For years he has also served his people directly, gathering donations from friends, family and businesses, and sending thousands of pounds back to Afghanistan with his own hands: food for hungry families, wells for villages without clean water, school bags for children. That lifelong work, which has reached tens of thousands of people, lives on today as One Afghan Foundation.

ځینې مسلکي مقالې یې هم لیکلي چې په (زېرمه) او (اردو) مجلو کی یې خپرې شوې دي۔ دغه راز یې پر بېلابېلو موضوعاتو لیکلي آثار هم چاپ شوي او تر درنو لوستونکیو ور رسیدلې دي۔
له لیکوالۍ سربېره یې د خپل ولس خدمت هم کړی دی۔ کلونه کلونه یې له دوستانو، کورنۍ او سوداګرو څخه مرستې راټولې کړي او افغانستان ته یې لېږلي دي: وږو کورنیو ته خواړه، کلیو ته د اوبو څاګانې او ماشومانو ته د ښوونځي سامان۔ په دې لار کې یې په زرګونو پونډه لېږلي او لسګونو زرو خلکو ته یې مرسته رسولې ده، چې دا کار نن د (يو افغان بنسټ) په نامه دوام لري۔
I dedicate this book to the oppressed, to those who have fallen victim to these injustices.
I have laboured to write simply and clearly, so that everyone, even those with the least schooling, may benefit.
I want many people to understand this bitter truth, and to take from it a lesson and a warning.
While we have everything we need, it is we who ought to be helping others.

Long before this website existed, Pir Muhammad Bavary was doing this work with his own two hands. For years he has gathered donations from friends, family and local businesses, and personally sent every pound back to Afghanistan: putting food on tables, digging wells for clean water, filling school bags for children, and lifting up whole communities. One Afghan Foundation is the continuation of that lifelong effort.

At a roadside work site, Pir Muhammad stops beside a day labourer and his wheelbarrow, hears his story and offers help on the spot.
Outside the shops he meets a street vendor carrying his goods on his back, listens to his troubles and helps him hand to hand.
A father works the streets while his little one sleeps in the wheelbarrow. Moments like this are why the Foundation exists.

Food distributions on the ground in Afghanistan: flour, rice, cooking oil and winter essentials, laid out and handed to hundreds of families through One Afghan Foundation.
The Foundation's newest work, begun in 2025: open-air classes for village children in eastern Afghanistan. Tents, mats, blackboards, books and teachers where no school existed, boys learning in the dry riverbed, and girls studying at the Sammar Educational Center.

This website was created by his family to carry his life's work into the digital age, so that his words, his humour and his wisdom remain freely available to Pashto readers for generations to come. Together with One Afghan Foundation, it carries forward a lifelong mission: preserving his words, and helping his people.
